Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in the city of Mecca in 570 AD. His father Abdullah had died a few months before his birth. His mother also passed away in his childhood. He was brought up by his grandfather ‘Abd al-Muttalib. ‘Abd al-Muttalib was the most respected person of the clan of Hashim and the tribe of Quraysh. The Quraysh was the main and most powerful tribe in Mecca, ‘Abd al-Muttalib was seen as the head of all of Mecca. In the Mecca, Quraysh had a special status because they used to be in charge of the Holy Ka’ba.
