Any luxury property developer has built its residential properties with all the right features. Staying in lockdown for several months, however, you realized things that are most important to you and your loved ones, and yet your home lacked.
So while you may have everything you need in your dwelling, a few remodels here and there to obtain what you need won’t hurt.
Here’s what you can do to make your home look newer and better. While at it, it is best to focus on colors.
1) Use the power of lighting
Lighting need not match in the entire house. Layered illumination is the key. Experts advise combining lights inside the room in varying heights and luminosity. For instance, you may opt for a decorative ceiling fixture in your living room at your Amara home.
This can also be applied to paint colors. Sticking to a color palette shows how natural light and lighting fixtures highlight the features of a room. Pick a color dominant in your house, then select two to three shades from the lightest to the darkest.
Paint swatches of each color and place them on a corner, near the window, or by the doorway. It will show you how lighting affects the color during various points of the day.
Also, the doors, trims, and ceiling are best painted with the same colors, albeit the same intensity. For instance, doors should be 50% lighter than the frames.
2) Create a focal point
In interior designing your The Enclaves home, always remember the art of creating the focal point. Accent walls, fantastic artwork, eye-catching furniture pieces, patterned backsplashes, and, of course, bold colors can do the trick.
Trying a color out of the norm can be nerve-wracking. If you’re not confident of the outcome, you can try using the dark hue inside cupboards and cabinets, back of bookshelves, window trim, or the flooring. It shifts the focus to the item or features of the room. Thus, it becomes the focal point when you enter the room. You can also work on contained spaces such as the powder room or the hallway.
A dark painted hall also provides the illusion of large and bright adjacent rooms. When you’re confident to try the deep colors to parts of your home, you can take on the fireplace mantel, doors, and wainscoting.
3) Work with the natural features
Dim rooms appear dull in light colors. Instead of fighting your home’s composition, opt for deep, rich colors to emphasize the natural light. Don’t worry about the size of the room as the dark color defines the area.
Vibrant shades of paint conceal the chaos. Spread out toys, books, and clutter to become part of the room and its decorations. On the other hand, you may focus on the aesthetics, following a specific theme when redecorating. For instance, Montecito homes usually have glass windows, some parts that can be redesigned using stained glasses.
Meanwhile, rooms with trims benefit from light paint colors. The combination of dark and bright colors gives the impression of height and width in the space.
4). Use contrasting elements
Textures, fabric, materials, colors, etc. create a mood. Mixing, matching, and combining these elements is the right thing to do until you achieve the desired effect. With that said, it is essential to know what you want to accomplish with the redecoration—what its purpose is.
Alex Kalita of Common Bond Design in Manhattan uses “the chair-rail effect.” Decorating using a contrasting hue provides architectural variation in a uniform space.
A white apartment becomes sophisticated and full of spirit with deep walls inspired by its color scheme. Still, choose a color with the qualities you wish to embody as it’s easy to work with white elements.
If you want to go all the way using dark paint, you can use furniture in neutral colors. Bulky pieces are better off camouflaged on walls in limited spaces. This way, the pieces of furniture won’t compete with other design elements in the area.
Dark colors effectively absorb and conceal items. But, of course, you need to make the call whether repainting will do its magic, or you need a replacement or a complete remodel. After all, it’s your space, and you know how comfortable or disadvantageous it is to live in there with all those nasty things.
Other tips when redecorating the house
Preparation is critical when painting over surfaces. Research what palette works best for your household. Also, don’t deviate from your chosen palette because too much of a shade may overpower the space.
Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dirt, grease, and other contamination types. It’s best to sand all surfaces you plan to coat for a smooth base.
That way, colors will blend naturally and have a velvety finish. It’s also essential to apply primer and allow it to dry completely before painting the first coat of color. If you want to achieve a vibrant finish, you must use layers of paint over the surfaces.
You need not replace fixtures—at times, repainting is all you need to give your space a fresh new look minus the hefty price tag. Don’t be overwhelmed, though. At this uncertain time, you want to stretch the available cash as you possibly can, and that’s completely okay. Don’t feel guilty about not spending on your abode. That’s a stressor that you don’t need to worry about.
Interior decorating is exciting. Perhaps, this is one thing you’ve realized after living in lockdown. You want this and that, and you are 100% ready to tackle new colors for your old spaces.
Several decorating schemes involve bold, dark colors for their richness and character. When you decide to apply unconventional deep colors into your home, you allow yourself to become artistic.
Don’t be afraid to experiment with color. It will not only define the design concept of your home, but it will also improve your quality of living. You treat yourself to a creative experience while enjoying the ambiance from the unexpected blasts of color.
