Your garden is summer-ready. You’ve planted your flowers and sown grass seeds, and you can’t wait to see the plants flourish in the sun. But if you do not look after your garden properly, soon plants will start to die, and weeds will appear.
Thankfully this is totally avoidable – you just need to ensure your garden is being looked after properly! Here are five things every beautiful garden needs.
The Correct Amount of Water
Many amateur gardeners water their garden every single day, but this isn’t always necessary. Simply push your finger into the soil, and if it is dry by the first knuckle then you need to water the seedlings (but not other plants). If your finger is dry by the second knuckle, water larger plants (such as rose bushes or perennials). This means you are less likely to accidentally over-watering the plants – and this gives you extra time to focus on other aspects of the garden!
Space
Newly seeded plants need quite a bit of space, but many people don’t realize this. They worry that not all of the seeds will grow, so they sow them thickly across the soil. As they sprout, the plants have to fight for space for their roots, and this can result in some of the plants dying. You can avoid this by removing small sprouting plants from the ground with a fork, and then replanting them in a new space with more room.
Food
Water and sunshine are enough for some plants, but if you want all of your plants to thrive, you should invest in some high-quality plant food. You can feed your plants inorganically or organically; plant fertilizer can be bought at most garden centers, and you can make your own organic plant food using compost from food wastage and leftovers. You can create a small area in your garden for compost, and as the organic waste decomposes it becomes the perfect fertilizer for plant foods. If you do not have a lot of space, you can simply put this in a specially designed compost container.
Pruning
Do you have trees in your garden? If so, you should invest in a chainsaw so that you can prune the trees yourself. Pruning is the most popular way to maintain trees, and it helps the trees to grow much larger than they usually would.
However, if you do this, it is essential to make sure that your chainsaw is in full working order; if not, it could damage the trees or even yourself. You can do this by sharpening your chainsaw with the best sharpener on the market.
De-Weeding
De-weeding is one of the most laborious garden jobs, but it is one of the most important. There are lots of different types of weeds in the USA, and the vast majority grow quickly and compete with your plants for water, food and sun. So pull up any green shoots as soon as you see them appear, and your garden should flourish!
