If you’ve chosen Australian’s most popular city as your next destination and you’re able to spend as much as one whole week there, you should start planning your itinerary. Sydney is a huge city and there is no way you can experience everything it has to offer in just seven days, but you can surely get a good taste of what life is like down under. So, let’s start planning…
Day 1
Most tourists decide to spend their first day at any new destination by trying to get as good a picture of the city as possible. The best way to do that is to take a hop-on-hop-off bus tour, which offers 20 different stops around the city, including the most famous landmarks. The guides give entertaining and informative talks on the locations and you can get a better idea about the rest of your holiday after one of these tours.
Day 2
Probably the most famous landmark is the iconic Sydney Opera House. You might want to take a tour of the backstage spaces if you want to learn about the place more than if you were simply a visitor who buys a ticket to watch a performance. You’ll probably take dozens (if not hundreds) of pictures, so make sure your camera is fully charged.
Day 3
If you want to enjoy the most stunning view of Sydney, head towards the Sydney Tower Eye. Not only will you be able to see the city from 269 metres above the ground, but you’ll also learn about how the construction was built. When you’ve savoured this experience, move on to another one that is also popular among tourists visiting this city. Rest your feet and treat your palate by going on a unique whiskey tasting in Sydney and take home a small sample of the blend you’ve created.
Day 4
If you’re interested in art, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is a must since it holds collections of Australian, Aboriginal, European, Asian and contemporary art. More than one million people visit it each year and it’s in a convenient location. Having enjoyed a morning appreciating art, take a short walk towards the Royal Botanic Garden where you’ll be able to see some stunning flora from Australia and all around the world. You’ll realise that you are not only feeling relaxed here, but you’re also bound to learn a thing or two about botany and horticulture.
Day 5
It would be a pity to visit Australia and not enjoy its fascinating aquatic culture. You can go on a tour of Sydney Harbour on a boat and visit the Australian National Maritime Museum which prides itself in keeping collections of objects and artefacts related to the naval and maritime history of Australia and NSW in particular. You’ll see a model of Captain Cook’s ship, among other exhibits.
Day 6
It’s almost time to leave Sydney and you probably want to do some shopping. Our tip is to head towards the Queen Victoria Building which is so unlike most modern shopping centres. Namely, this historic, nineteenth-century building is home to dozens of shops where you can find almost anything you could wish for, from jewellery to antiques.
Day 7
This is your last day and you should spend it either revisiting the place you loved the most or checking out some attraction you simply couldn’t squeeze in during the first six days. If there is no such thing, how about going to Bondi Beach for a day filled with relaxation, sunbathing or swimming? However you decide, make sure you leave enough time to pack your suitcases for the trip home.
You’ll probably realize why so many people choose Sydney as their holiday destination or even place of residence and you’re very likely to start planning your next trip down under as soon as you come home. After all, seven days simply don’t do justice to such a varied and amazing place like Sydney.
