Life is always going to be a complicated thing, and there will always be surprises and challenges to be dealt with. This might make you wonder if there is a point in being organized – after all, plans can change unexpectedly, so what is the point in making them? – but the truth is that the more organized you are, the easier it is to deal with any sudden changes or issues that come your way.
Some people find it much more difficult to be organized than others, but everyone can be organized if they try hard enough. Here are three ways that you can make your life a lot more organized and make it easier to deal with, no matter what happens.
Write It All Down
How many times have you told yourself that you’ll remember to do this or that, to renew your auto insurance or buy something specific at the store, and then completely forgotten about it almost instantly? We are so busy that it is easy for things to just slip our minds, and by the time we remember, it is too late to do anything about it. Therefore, it is useful to write everything down when you think of it. The act of writing something down is a great way to store it more clearly in memory, making it easier to retrieve. Plus, if that does not work, you will still have the written note to remind you.
Some people like to carry a notebook around with them for this reason. Something small that can fit into your purse or pocket is ideal, and when you think of something, you can quickly write it down. Another way to do it is to send yourself emails from your smartphone or make notes on your mobile device. This is fine as long as you don’t get distracted and find you are scrolling through social media or checking emails rather than making yourself notes.
Have A Place for Everything
There is an old but useful saying: there is a place for everything and everything in its place. This means that you should find a ‘home’ for everything you have, somewhere it belongs and where, when you are finished using it – whatever it might be – you can put it back. If you can do this, your home will be much neater and more organized, and you will never lose anything again because you will always be able to remember exactly where it is.
If your home is currently rather disorganized, this kind of task can seem like an overwhelming one, but it does not have to be. Just take one room at a time. Look around and remove anything that does not belong there. When you are left with just the items that should be in that room, you can then decide where they should be kept. They might already be in the correct place, of course, but otherwise, it should not take too long to put right. When you are ready, even if it is days later, you can move onto the next room. Eventually, your home will be organized entirely.
Declutter
Decluttering is a great way to become more organized. Over time, you will accumulate a lot of ‘stuff’. Some of it will be useful, and some will not. When you want to be more organized, you will need to go through the ‘stuff’ and determine what you want or need to keep and what you can throw out.
Decluttering means you can gain more space and become more organized. It is good for your mental health, plus, if you sell unwanted items, you can even make a small profit.
