All the processes of the realization of the security of the American work.
The United States has strict rules regarding the safety of workers. In case of non-compliance with these rules, the company or the worker who refuses to fulfill their obligations are fined up to 3 times, and in the fourth mistake, imprisonment without reduction of the previous fines. This rigidity shows how Americans care about security.
If you want to work in the United States, it is important that you remain aware of the country’s rules, because all workers are required to take a minimum 10-hour OSH course, while the supervisor — the person in charge of the other workers — has to take a course of at least 30 hours duration.
In this article, we will address the courses offered by companies to their employees and what are the duties and rights of workers in relation to safety during work and the necessary equipment for safety, e.g. goggles, helmets and temporary fencing. Keep an eye on our tips, so there will be no room for questions about employment, dismissal and salary because we will discuss all these topics below.
Supervisor
Addressed at the beginning of the article, the supervisor is the worker responsible for the other workers in the company, it is a position of trust, so it needs a qualified professional. Companies that select supervisors must either offer a qualification course or require the completion of such a course during the selection process for the supervisory position. The course lasts at least 30 hours, a workload above the common course that is suitable for all workers.
Workers
Workers also need to take the course offered by the company or have the course on their resume when looking for a job. This course is basic and is for all employees except the supervisor who holds a higher position. The worker has a minimum requirement of 10 hours of course, if he decides to carry out this specialization on his own, it is necessary to have a diploma or proof of achievement.
Rules
After completing the courses, the company and employees have rules and obligations to comply with the US government. One of the main rules is compliance with the use of protective material during work, for example, employees who provide services in works and constructions are required to wear a helmet and glasses. It is the supervisor’s duty that the rules are followed or there may be fines.
Amerce
Fines depend on the risk of the work, the more dangerous a service, the greater the fine in relation to non-compliance with protection rules. The US government can fine up to three times, each time an inspector witnesses the breach of the rules, the fine increases, the fourth time the responsible supervisor can be arrested, especially if the person in charge is already on notice of the previous fines.
Resignation
Many cases of non-compliance with work rules end in dismissal, if the employee is fired for not using the protective material, that worker is not entitled to government money. When someone is fired without cause, that person is entitled to money made available by the government, but if the dismissal has cause, it is the case of the employee who refuses to protect himself, then the money is not made available.
We have covered the main workplace safety cases in the United States. If you want to work with Americans and your type of service delivery puts your physical safety at risk, then take the time to specialize in a basic OSH course so that your chances of employability are higher. In case of other doubts, it is important to understand that although the rules apply throughout the American territory, each company has its own rules.
