With COVID19 leading to more of us spending more time at home than ever before, streaming services have become more and more popular. The best streaming service is much more than the shows and movies that are available – users also consider other factors such as the app experience, how quickly new content is released, additional features to make viewing easier or more fun, and value for money.
Over the past few years, more and more viewers have signed up for streaming services like Amazon Prime and Netflix, and for a very good reason. When it comes to choosing the best streaming service for your needs, there has never been as much choice as there is today. However, while the options available are great for viewers who are looking for something new to watch, it can also be overwhelming to choose which one is best for you out of the many great options available.
If you’re looking for some new content to watch in 2021, here are some of the best streaming services worth signing up for.
Netflix:
Netflix is the most popular streaming service around the world. Unlike other streaming apps that will often offer both free and paid content, everything included on Netflix is available for a small monthly fee, and there is a one-month free trial service that you can sign up for. It works with a huge range of devices including smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Roku, PlayStation, Xbox, Google Chromecast, Android, Apple, and Windows. Along with a range of popular movies and shows to choose from, Netflix also offers plenty of original TV shows and movies, including dozens of award-winning shows like Orange Is the New Black, Stranger Things, and The Witcher.
Amazon Prime Video:
Amazon Prime is fairly similar to Netflix when it comes to the range of content that it offers along with its own original series. It works on a wide range of devices including most smart TVs, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Roku, Xbox, PlayStation, Apple, Windows, and Android. Subscription to Amazon’s streaming service comes as standard when you subscribe to Amazon Prime, meaning that you also get access to other features such as Amazon Music, premium Amazon delivery services and deals, and Amazon Gaming perks. Unlike Netflix, Amazon Prime also offers a range of premium channels that you can subscribe to and access even more content.
Hulu:
Hulu is a popular video streaming service that offers a wide range of big-name shows like Saturday Night Live, South Park, and The Simpsons. It is available on a wide range of different platforms including most smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV Stick, PlayStation, Xbox, Roku, Google Chromecast, Windows, Apple, and Android. It is also the only streaming app that is currently available to use on the Nintendo Switch. You can choose from Hulu’s standard on-demand streaming service, or the new Hulu that comes with live TV. The monthly subscription is one of the cheapest at just $5.99 per month, although you can pay $12.99 per month to combine your Hulu subscription with ESPN Plus and Disney+.
HBO Max:
This streaming service is the newest version of HBO Go and HBO Now. It includes some of HBO’s most popular content like Succession, Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, and The Leftovers, along with tons more content that has made it more competitive with Netflix. It is compatible with most internet-connected devices including smart TVs, Google Chromecast, Apple TV, Android Fire TV Stick, Roku, Xbox, Windows, Apple, and Android. You will find plenty of original movies available on this streaming service, including series that were previously available to watch on the DC Universe app. There’s also a wide range of excellent content channels to choose from including Cartoon Network and Studio Ghibli. In 2021, HBO Max is set to release Warner Bro’s biggest blockbusters on the same day and date with cinemas. The streaming service costs $14.99 per month, but you can often take advantage of discounts when you purchase six or twelve months upfront.
Disney+:
If you enjoy Disney shows and movies, Disney’s very own streaming service could be the ideal choice for you. It works on a wide range of devices including Amazon Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Android TV, Google Chromecast, Roku, Xbox One, PS4, and Samsung and LG smart TVs. You can sign up for a free trial of seven days and the monthly subscription cost is $6.99. This streaming service doesn’t try to be the main TV streaming app that you use; rather, it is a family-friendly option that has a specific selection of content including Disney animated movies, Pixar, Marvel, National Geographic, and Star Wars. One of the biggest reasons to invest in this streaming service is that it is the main place where you can access some of Disney’s biggest and latest shows and movies including The Mandalorian and WandaVision. 4K streaming is included as standard and the app is easy to use with movies and shows sorted by genre.
YouTube TV:
YouTube is the most popular online streaming site and has changed the internet forever by allowing anybody to upload their videos for people around the world to watch. YouTube has made several creators famous and has been the platform for many filmmakers to start their careers since you don’t need a huge budget or even any budget to produce your own films or TV series. Although YouTube’s free site will always be the most popular, YouTube TV is worth considering subscribing to if you are looking for a collection of quality content. You can get it on several devices including smart TVs, Xbox, Roku, Google Chromecast, Apple TV, Android, Windows, and iOS. You can use Setapp to find out more about signing up for YouTube TV and how to fix common problems like YouTube black screen.
