Picking an outfit for a night out with your friends is a difficult task at the best of times, let alone when it’s your first night out in over a year. Never has there been more pressure to get your outfit right and dress to impress than now.
After a year of primarily wearing sweatpants and loungewear, getting back into a suit or re-learning how to walk in heels might seem like a daunting prospect, not to mention being able to actually put together a cohesive outfit.
If you’re planning your first night out and need some inspiration on what to wear, look no further. Here are some fail-safe outfit ideas that will ensure you go out looking and feeling your best, no matter who you are or where you’re going.
1. Little Black Dress
The most obvious option and the safest option for females is to wear an LBD. It never goes out of style and complements almost every body type, not to mention the range. Pair an LBD with a patent clutch bag and some barely there heels for a classic night out ‘fit, or tone it down with an oversized shirt and some sock or shoe boots. Alternatively, if where you live is a bit on the cooler side, pair your LBD with a statement blazer for a pop of color and much needed warmth.
2. All Black Shirt and Trousers
In the same way an LBD is a classic for women, a tailored black shirt and fitted black trousers with black dress shoes and a black belt never looks bad on a man. Roll the sleeves up and keep the top two or three buttons unbuttoned for a more casual feel. Dress the outfit up with a classic watch, or add a more casual element with a red leather bracelet for a beach boho vibe and a snippet of color. If black trousers aren’t quite your thing, try black jeans instead.
3. Bodysuit and Leather Trousers
If there’s one thing that looks good on every female, it’s leather trousers. Yes, they seem like a bold choice, but they are incredibly versatile. Whether they’re really shiny patent or toned down leather, you can pair leather trousers with almost anything. A lacy bodysuit? Yes. A dressy shirt? Absolutely. A patterned peplum? Perfect. Add a pair of stiletto heels and a plain bag to tone things down and you’re well away – especially if you’re first night out is in a pub or a bar as opposed to a nightclub.
4. Jeans and a Shirt
If leather trousers are a step too far for you, go down the jeans route. Distressed mid-wash jeans with a belt and a bodysuit/blazer combo is always a winner – nightclub or bar alike. For women, add some chunky heeled sandals or mules to take your jeans from day to night. For men, pair the jeans with a fitted white shirt. Roll the sleeves up or opt for a muscle fit short sleeve shirt to bring a summer vibe to the outfit. A pair of tan brown loafers will finish the look and make sure the outfit is both beer garden and nightclub friendly. The classic jeans and a nice top combo never fails, and it certainly won’t fail on the first night out!
Summary
Whatever you choose to wear on your first night out, make sure you’re comfortable and wear something that not only looks good, but that gives you the confidence to get back out there and allows you the freedom to have a good time.
