You want active audience participation if you are going to improve your brand’s reputation and reach out to those you are targeting. The aim is to have your company resonate with your audience if you are to build a pool of loyal customers who will return and spread the word of how wonderful your business is. How can you achieve this, though? Especially during a time when there is so much on the internet? Read on for some tips to improve audience engagement.
Know your audience inside and out
Firstly, you need to know who you are trying to communicate with. Not knowing who to target or targeting too many people will only result in wasted time and money.
How do you know who to target?
- Do surveys
- Ask your existing customers what they like and don’t like
- Look at online forums for direction
- Do competitor research
- See what is ‘buzzing’ in your industry
- As your friends/relatives what they would look for if they were your potential customers
Once you have conducted your research, you should be able to build a persona so that you know who to target. This should paint a picture of your typical customer, including their age, sex, location, job title, job salary, their likes and dislikes, as well as their hobbies. You should also have an image of what your customer looks like.
Produce the correct content
With many mediums available to us, it’s easy for businesses to try and do it all. The issue with this, however, is that you may be saturating your content, spending additional funds, targeting the wrong people and, ultimately, trying too hard. While you want to spread the word and reach as many people as possible, you should be putting your efforts into reaching the audience that’ll be most interested in your content/business.
To do this, you need to decide what content and platforms your target audience like to engage with and where they like to read or watch their content. For instance, people in their 30s are more likely to be active on Facebook, so you should post content on Facebook more often than other platforms, such as Instagram or Twitter.
Remember, there are many forms of content to consider, such as articles, short blog posts, PR, social media posts, video and podcasts. No matter what content you settle on, you need to ensure it is done properly, so it is worth contacting professionals to help showcase and get your brand out there without the risk of miscommunication. For instance, if you want to write long-form content, then working with a copywriter who knows your industry is the best bet, whereas if you want to produce and release a TV advert or a short film to help rebrand your company, then a professional film agency is the way to do this.
Social media is priceless
We are still living in a world of social media, with many people speaking to and connecting with one another through the internet. Your company needs to have a professional social media persona, but if you wish to stand out, you need to also have a voice and a brand that will connect with your customers.
