Apple is expected to release a redesigned MacBook Pro model between late 2026 and early 2027. The new design will likely feature an OLED display with touch support, a thinner chassis, potential 5G support, and possibly a Dynamic Island cutout instead of a notch.
Currently, Apple offers three MacBook Pro models: a base 14-inch with an M5 chip, a higher-end 14-inch with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, and a 16-inch model with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. The main difference between the base and higher-end 14-inch models, besides the chipset, is that the base model has a single fan, while the Pro and Max models have two. The entry-level M5 model is priced about $400 less than the M4 Pro model, providing a budget-friendly option for users who don’t require top-tier performance.
Looking ahead, Apple plans to launch new MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, as well as an M5 MacBook Air in the first half of next year. Around mid-year, M5 and M5 Pro Mac minis and M5 Max and M5 Ultra Mac Studio versions are expected. Toward the end of the year, Apple aims to debut the M6 chip alongside a new low-end 14-inch MacBook Pro.
These updates are described as evolutionary, not revolutionary, but two upcoming Macs indicate significant changes. The M6 Pro and M6 Max MacBook Pro models will have an OLED display, thinner chassis, and touch support, launching between late 2026 and early 2027. However, the base model MacBook Pro is not expected to receive this redesign or OLED display initially, as Apple seems to want to extend the current design for at least another year.
Therefore, to get the redesign when it arrives, buyers will need to opt for the higher-end MacBook Pro with M6 Pro or M6 Max chips.
